Tuwan Gainer, 31, was arrested on Saturday, May 25, the Atlantic City Police Department said in a news release. The woman stopped an officer to report the attempted carjacking at around 1:10 a.m.
Investigators said Gainer approached her car with a gun near the intersection of Bellevue and Pacific avenues. The woman's child was in the backseat.
Officers saw Gainer near the intersection of Florida and Pacific avenues. He ran away but police eventually caught him and he was found with a loaded gun.
Gainer was charged with carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, endangering the welfare of a child, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. He was held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
